How to Choose Your Keywords Wisely

Well-chosen keywords is your way to success.

Choosing the keywords properly is one of the most important things that will help you rank well in search engines. That is why you should take your time and choose your keywords wisely. Here is how to do it.

Basic Things to Know About Keywords

Keywords should consist of two to five words. They should include words that best describe your business. Keywords should be words or phrases that you want your business to be associated with or you think your potential clients associate your company with.

How to Choose the Best Keywords for Your Business

  1. Your keywords have to be specific. If your keywords are too general, you run the risk of attracting people looking for something different than what you offer.
  2. Think as your customers do. Make a list of all the words your customers may use to find the products or services you offer.
  3. Use descriptive words to enrich your terms.
  4. Search for many variations of your keywords, for example synonyms or plural forms, to cover many terms closely connected with what you do.
  5. Analyze your competition. Maybe you will discover some keywords you have forgotten to use but are relevant to your business as well.
  6. Use keyword tools. They will help you choose keywords that are often searched for as well as show you what competition they have. In other words, keyword tools help you get ahead of your competition.

I would recommend using the Scribe SEO (which will be described in the next blog post) or the Google Keyword Tool to find out which keywords could be the most profitable for your website. But there are also other Keyword tools you can try out.

Where to place the keywords on your website to get the most out of them

There are a few places on your website you definitely should place your keywords. These places are as follows:

Title tags – This is the most important place to put your keywords. Keywords in the title tags actually describe what your Web page is about.

Header tags – These usually appear as headlines and therefore seem important and appealing to customers.

Body text – You should place keywords within the body text of your webpage as well. It will be advantageous to your SEO efforts.

As you can see, choosing the right keywords for your Web site is one of the most important factors that will help you build a high-ranking website. It is worth spending some time on this process.

    Good primer on keywords.

I often ask clients what keywords they want to rank for, if that draws a blank I ask them… “what do you think people type into Google when trhey are looking for your goods or services?”

That usually identifies a few keywords.

I’ve never tried Scribe but I hear good reports about it.#
BTW – love the site colours.
Rafal tells me that you are using a customised Balance theme.

  2. I often tell real estate agents that the most important place to place keywords is in the title/title tags to your posts. But I’ve also seen plenty of agents overdo it by stuffing way too many keywords in there. More isn’t better in this case.

    Great keyword overview!

      Thank You!

Yes, that’s true. Many people place too many keywords in title tags because they want to include there every possible keyword connected with their business. But it doesn’t work like this.
